Off to Australia – bring it on!
I’m about to start my second season in Formula 1 and it’s like everything is new again. New team owner, new team mate, new circuits for 2008.
Vijay Mallya has brought a new impetus to the team. Everything is more streamlined and better organised. Colin Kolles our team principal is now much more relaxed. And the driver selection of Giancarlo Fisichella as my team mate and Tonio Liuzzi as the test driver would suggest that pay drivers in F1 have finally had their day.
Both colleagues are first-class racing drivers with a lot of speed and experience. So far we have got on great and are really enjoying things. I hope this will continue into the season, even though my aim is to beat Giancarlo. I will be using all legitimate means at my disposal to do so.
Testing has proved promising, although to be honest I don’t set much store by comparing times with other teams. We all drive different programs.
We will see on the Saturday afternoon in Melbourne where we and the others stand. One thing is for sure - we don’t want to be starting on the last row. Our clear aim is to be making the second qualifying round consistently throughout the season. And we’re well capable of doing that. We want to be leaving the Super Aguri in our wake from the onset and then challenging Honda for places.
This week is another fitness week with our drivers. Then we head for Melbourne. I’m really up for it and am looking forward hugely to my second season in F1 and the new circuits in Valencia and Singapore, where the first Formula 1 night race will no doubt spark a great deal of interest.
I trust I can count on your continued support and goodwill this year. 2008 will certainly be an important season for me. After all, this year I am not a rookie any more....
Yours, Adrian
